Trinity Institute 39th National Theological Conference

As we rethink how to grow, build, supply, consume, dispose, and recycle everything in our lives, we often fail at partnering with the marginalized and powerless, and thus adversely affect them. Building sustainable communities goes hand-in-hand with thoughtful building of infrastructures and physical spaces. Is there a theological basis for living abundantly while striving for justice and sustainability?

In 2009, Trinity Institute will explore sustainability through the lens of liberation theology, which views Jesus not only as redeemer but also liberator of the oppressed. It posits a vision of Christians working together toward social justice by considering all people as full partners in healing our planet and our communities, regardless of their social or economic status. Only in striving for sustainable relationships, rather than accumulating and consuming more for ourselves, can we discover true abundance.

Through keynote speeches and panel discussions by leading theologians and grassroots activists, this three-day conference will consider radical ideas about abundance, sustainability, and well-being. Interactive reflection groups throughout will enable you to share your own experiences and solutions with fellow attendees.

Trinity Institute takes place at Trinity Church in New York City, but includes a diverse audience that joins the conference via video webcasts at designated partner sites around the world.

So what is TEC?

Tec is a 3-day, peer led spiritual retreat -- it is a great experience - whether you go to church or not.

The weekend is based on a series of talks and small group discussions. TEC offers opportunities for both new participants ("candidates") and returning TECers to learn about and explore a relationship with Jesus Christ. The atmosphere of the weekend makes it easy to develop new friendships and experience being part of a loving and supportive community. It is three days of worship, great contemporary music, play, prayer, good food, fun and fellowship.

What Happens at TEC?

When you arrive at Chapel Rock you will be greeted by your hosts for the weekend - a team made up of youth, adults and youth leaders.

You will hear a variety of talks by students like you who will share their struggles and insights as they are incorporating faith into their every day lives. The talks include topics such as - "Who am I in relation to God", "God is Love", "Being one who is ‘sent'", and "Community".

There are some surprises at TEC that will add excitement and inspiration to the weekend.

Who May Attend?

High school students, grades 9-12, and college-aged students may attend the weekend - separate groups of course. First-time attenders at TEC go through as "candidates". After that, you may apply to be on the "team" that puts the weekend together for the new group of candidates.

How do I Sign Up for TEC?

Fill out this PDF form! Be sure to fill out your form as soon as possible as spaces fill up quickly.

Where is TEC?

TEC is held at Chapel Rock. With fresh mountain air, the scent of pines, and a vista of massive boulders and nearby mountains, Chapel Rock is the perfect location for a weekend away. Chapel Rock is located at 1131 Country Club Drive, Prescott, AZ 86303. Emergency Phone: 928-445-3499. When you register a map will be sent to you so that your parents can pick you up on Sunday.

A meditative prayer and chant service. Taizé has spawned a unique style of worship music that reflects the meditative nature of the community. Taizé music emphasises simple phrases, usually lines from Psalms or other pieces of Scripture, repeated and sometimes also sung in canon. The repetition is intended to aid meditation and prayer. Much of the Taizé community music was conceived and composed by Jacques Berthier.
