Description

John BellThe Arizona Ecumenical Council presents "Shopping for Thrills or Yearning for Religion" A Day with John Bell, World-Renowned Musician and Theologian on Friday, Oct. 24. With Scottish accented wit and story-telling John Bell engages people into thinking more deeply about our life together as people of God. He always manages to delight and challenge his listeners, whether worship leaders, pastors, musicians, or educators. He is a member of the Iona Community and from those windswept rocks of Scotland he comes to the deserts of Arizona. Don't miss this unique opportunity to learn, sing, pray, and talk with this very creative man.

8:30 a.m. Registration

9 a.m. Praying and Singing Together How do we develop corporate identity in worship and song? John Bell will help us reflect on the theology of the Church's song and how we can sing and pray together with integrity.

10:30 a.m. Break

10:45 a.m. What is emerging in our Emerging Church? John Bell has the unique experience of seeing and hearing worship in many parts of the world. We have asked him to reflect on what he has observed and compare that to what he sees in American churches including the ever changing concept of the "emerging church".

Noon Lunch (included in registration)AEC logo

1 p.m. Improving Congregational Song Group singing is becoming less a part of our lives, but one place it occurs regularly is in our worship services. John Bell will give us additional tools to improve the singing of the whole people of God and introduce us to some of the songs he has heard in other parts of the world.

2:30 p.m. Break

2:45 p.m.Shopping for Thrills or Yearning for Religion? We sometimes read the Church like we read the marketplace. In helping people draw closer to God do we need to find deeper and more profound ways to live, sing, pray, and worship than what seems popular at the moment? This topic is no less than a reflection on the future of the American church.
